Doctor Who: Series 8: Episode 1

Did you miss us? We missed you! And we also missed Doctor Who! Which is why Liz and Rudy have returned to this humble podcast to evaluate our new Doctor and his latest adventure!

In today’s episode (please excuse a few seconds of static), explaining where they’ve been and catching up on some basic news (some of it more adult than the rest), it’s time to discuss Peter Capaldi rampaging through Victorian London after a dinosaur and some very familiar-looking robots.

What do you think of all this? Tell us! As always, we’re on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email! Hope you’ve been well, the last few months, and looking forward to a full season of fun!

Episode 86: A Timey Wimey All-Of-2013 Round-Table!

podcast 24 March 2014 0 Comments

Friends, apologies for the long delay in posting this — we had technical issues, life issues and Doctor Who issues! Well, the first two were the reasons we were held up in making this podcast available to you. The third? That’s what brings this episode onto the internets!

Liz and Rudy are joined by round-table regulars Barrett, Beth, Megan and Jay to break down the year of Doctor Who in 2013. Who actively dislikes Clara? Who is REALLY alarmingly mad at the Christmas special? Who still prefers Moffat over Davies? How much wine did we drink? Well, you will find out by listening!

And we promise that soon, we will have a new episode catching you up with all the recent time travel news. We will also definitely be back full-time when Peter Capaldi is back on our screens!

Tragically, we have no clue when that happens, but in the meantime we are still very excited to hear what you’re thinking! So tell us! We’re on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email! And we love you for listening.

Episode 85: Doctor Who‘s “The Time of the Doctor”

podcast 2 January 2014 0 Comments

Oh, Matt Smith, we hardly knew ye. Actually, that’s a lie. We know you pretty well! Point is, after quickly discussing a couple of new trailers, Liz and Rudy dig into the 11th Doctor’s swan song, and what we might consider to be part three of the “of the Doctor” trilogy!

Were Liz and Rudy pleased by the way “The Time of the Doctor” wrapped up key elements of the 11th Doctor’s storyline? Did they share the general underwhelment of the collective internet? How bad, exactly, was that old age makeup? We discuss all of that and more!

Then we discuss what you thought! Because we love to hear what you think! Tell us more via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email! And as always, thanks for listening.

Episode 84: The Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Spectacular!

podcast 25 November 2013 0 Comments

You guys, can you BELIEVE IT? It finally happened! “The Day of the Doctor”! David Tennant! John Hurt! Billie Piper! And so much other stuff!

This episode, we sit down with EVERYTHING Doctor Who. EVERYTHING. Neil Gaiman’s 11th Doctor novella Nothing O’Clock! The surprising prequel episode “The Night of the Doctor”! The SUPER-DELIGHTFUL Peter Davison-written/directed cameo fest “The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot”! Google’s 8-bit tribute to the show’s anniversary!

And that’s all before we get to the actual damn episode! Did “The Day of the Doctor” thrill Liz and Rudy with its mix of classic Who references and new Who adventure? Did its depiction of the Time War satisfy? How great was it to see (most of) our old friends again?

Oh, and what did you guys think? Tell us Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email! And thanks for listening. Happy Who Day!

Note: You’re not bad at counting, we had some technical issues with Episode 83, and the 50th Anniversary comes… Well, only once. Expect our discussion of time travel movies like “About Time” and “Free Birds” soon!

Episode 82: The 6th and 7th Doctors, Plus Special Guest Alan Kistler!

blog 11 November 2013 2 Comments

Folks, this is the episode that will make you realize that Liz and Rudy? They don’t know nearly as much about Doctor Who as you might think. That’s because they’re joined by a VERY special guest, Alan Kistler, who is a totally legit Who scholar!

Alan literally wrote the book on Doctor Who‘s complex 50-year history, and he totally schools us all on some FASCINATING facts about the show’s development and production. (You will not BELIEVE some of the stuff he reveals about the many attempts to bring the Doctor to the U.S.)

Along the way, Liz and Rudy basically finish up their quest through the classic Doctors, having dug into Colin Baker’s weirdly ahead-of-its-time “The Caves of Androzani” and Sylvester McCoy’s charming relationship with Ace in “The Curse of Fenric.” That’s right, they’re ready for the 50th Anniversary Special! (Maybe not emotionally, but in all other ways.)

As always, we love to hear what you think — so tell us, gosh darn it, via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email! And also as always, thanks for listening.

Hey, big episode for you — because there’s lot of exciting stuff happening in the time travel ‘verse! First up: We check in on the latest projects from David Tennant (Broadchurch!) and Christopher Eccleston (NO DON’T BE MEAN TO THOR CHRISTOPHER ECCLESTON!).

Then, we can’t help but chat about our current favorite Monday Fox time travel-related drama, Sleepy Hollow! How is the freshman series holding up post its crazypants pilot? Will Liz and Rudy continue to watch? How great were the post-its in Episode 2? So great, is the answer to that last one!

After that, it’s time for the continuation of our classic Doctor Who-straganza! Liz and Rudy dig into the Pertwee adventure “The Green Door,” then begin dipping into the Tom Baker years with “City of Death” and (a bit of) “Genesis of the Daleks”!

Plus, Rudy’s catching up on the new Puffin novellas that the BBC has been releasing all year long — what’d he think of the 8th Doctor adventure Spore? And who’s set to write the 9th and 10th Doctor adventures?

Episode 78: Doctor Who‘s “The Mind Robber,” and Christopher Eccleston is a Horrible Tease

podcast 2 September 2013 0 Comments

Hey, did you guys hear that more than one person has played the Doctor? We’re exploring this theory this week on Timey Wimey TV!

First, there’s some news about Christopher Eccleston being very specific about coming back for an anniversary special — but which anniversary? (Short version: He’s a cheeky one, eh?)

Then there’s an update about the role being played by John Hurt in the upcoming 50th anniversary special — or, rather, a hint courtesy of the IDW comics.

On a non-Doctor Who related tangent, Rudy and Liz have made purchases recently — specifically, Liz is reading Life After Life, an interesting exploration of alternate realities, while Rudy is playing with Back to the Future Lego!

Screen Shot 2013-09-02 at 10.45.43 AM

Finally, we continue delving into the world of Classic Who with Patrick Troughton in The Mind Robber! How much did the show improve in quality over the first 1963 episode? What qualities does Troughton bring to the role? And how annoying does Rudy find companion Jamie McCrimmon?

Find out, then tell us what you think! As always, we’re on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Google Plus or email!  Next time: The 3rd Doctor, plus whatever other treats the time travel ‘verse might have in store!
